What I Think Of Switch 2
16 Apr, 2025
I just realized that I never made a post following the Switch 2 Direct, so that's what this is now.
I'm definitely really hyped for the console, really it's the first time I've been excited for a new console to come out for a long time. Yeah, it is a little boring that it's basically just a Switch with better horsepower and graphics; but honestly I wasn't expecting much more than that. Really there isn't much more Nintendo can actually do at this point, I feel like. The Switch was already the culmination of their whole schtick of having a home console and a handheld for each generation, so the Switch 2 is just the obvious evolution of the concept.
Mario Kart World also looks really good. I adore the cartoony look and expressive animations they've been pushing since Mario Wonder, it's a great breath of fresh air coming from the New Super Mario Bros era where everything was kinda same-y. The roster could use a little working on though. I love all the basic enemies being playable, don't get me wrong, but the fact that characters like Dry Bowser and Petey Piranha might not be playable kinda irks me (epsecially since the stupid Smash Bros plant made it in over the established character).
One thing I can't ignore though is the price point of the games. The console itself is reasonably priced for what it is, I'd say, but $80 for a single game?? You might as well mug me at this point! Don't get me started on physical copies costing $90. As someone who prefers to buy my games physically, the extra $10 for each game is really unreasonable and means I'll likely have a very small Switch 2 library. Oh well, at least most Switch games will be compatible with it.
Also fuck the weird Joy-Con mouse thing, that's stupid.
So, uh, hey! I'm back :D Sorry about the long gap between posts. It's not that there isn't anything to post about, I just got kinda busy. In related news, New Super Waffle development is going well! I just finished 2-5 and 2-Tower is nearing completion. Pretty soon here, a playable demo should be ready to release! So look out for when that's out (I'll probably make a post for it).
